Dua using Asma ul Husna — The Comprehensive

Sahih Bukhari 6410 / Sahih Muslim 2691

Recite after every Salah. The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge using the names of Allah.

Allahumma inni a'udhu biridaka min sakhatika wa bimu'afatika min 'uqubatika wa a'udhu bika minka la uhsi thana'an 'alayka anta kama athnayta 'ala nafsik

O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, and in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise — You are as You have praised Yourself.

Dua of Ism al-Azam (Greatest Name)

Sunan Abu Dawood 1495 — Hasan Sahih

The Prophet ﷺ heard this dua and said: "He has called upon Allah by His Greatest Name, by which if He is called upon He responds."

Allahumma inni as'aluka bi'annaka Antallahu la ilaha illa Antal Ahadus Samadul ladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad

O Allah, I ask You because You are Allah, there is no god but You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, Who neither begets nor was begotten, and there is nothing comparable to Him.

Dua of Al-Hayyu Al-Qayyum (Ism al-Azam)

Sunan Ibn Majah 3858 — Sahih by Al-Albani

The Prophet ﷺ said this contains the Greatest Name of Allah.

O Allah, I ask You — for Yours is all praise, there is no god but You, the Compassionate, the Bestower of favour, Creator of the heavens and earth. O Possessor of majesty and honour, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hadith of Sahih Bukhari 2736 and Sahih Muslim 2677 establishes that Allah has 99 names. However, no single verse of the Quran lists all 99. The names appear throughout the Quran and Sahih Hadith collections. The specific list of 99 names most widely accepted comes from a narration in Tirmidhi 3507 (though its chain is debated, the individual names themselves are established from the Quran and other Sahih narrations).
