Tajweed is the set of rules that govern how the Quran should be recited — preserving its pronunciation exactly as revealed.

The word Tajweed (تجويد) means “to make something excellent.” In the context of the Quran, Tajweed refers to the rules of pronunciation and recitation that have been passed down from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through an unbroken chain of teachers to today.
