Yuqālu li-sāhibi al-Qur’ān: iqra’ wartaqi wa rattil kamā kunta turattilu fid-dunyā, fa-inna manzilataka ‘inda ākhiri āyatin taqra’uhā.

English Translation

“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: ‘Recite and rise in status, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you recite.’”

Urdu Translation ·

Excerpt Hundreds of online Quran platforms exist in the UK. Most are not what they claim to be. This 7-point checklist tells you exactly what to verify before enrolling your child or yourself — and how Ayat Bridge passes every single check.

Introduction — The Online Quran Market in 2025

The demand for online Quran education has grown dramatically since 2020. And where demand grows, supply follows — including supply that does not always deliver what it promises.

Today, hundreds of online Quran platforms exist — ranging from genuinely excellent, certified academies to platforms that assign whoever is available, cut corners on qualifications, and prioritise sign-ups over results. As a parent choosing online Quran education for your child, or as an adult choosing for yourself, the ability to distinguish between these options is genuinely important.

This checklist will help you do exactly that. Seven specific things to check — practical, verifiable, and directly relevant to the quality of education your child will receive.

Check 1 — Can They Name the Teacher Before You Pay?

This is the first and most revealing question you can ask any online Quran academy. 'Who will be teaching my child?'

A confident, quality academy answers this question immediately and completely. They tell you the teacher's name, their qualifications, how long they have been teaching, and what age groups they specialise in. This information is available before any payment is made.

If the response is 'a suitable teacher will be assigned once you enrol' or 'you will meet your teacher in the first class' — that is a significant red flag. It means teacher assignment is driven by availability, not by matching. Your child could end up with the first available teacher rather than the right one.

At Ayat Bridge: Teacher details are shared before any payment. You know who will teach your child before you commit to anything. And if the match is not right after the first sessions, the teacher is changed at no extra cost.

Check 2 — Is the Teacher Hafiz ul Quran or Alim/Alima?

This is the qualification question — and it matters enormously. There is a significant difference between a Muslim who reads the Quran well and a Muslim who is Hafiz ul Quran (has memorised the complete Quran) or Alim/Alima (has completed formal Islamic studies).

A person who reads well can share what they know. But they cannot correct what they do not hear. They cannot teach Tajweed they have not been formally trained in. They cannot answer questions about the meaning and context of the Quran they have not studied.

A Hafiz ul Quran has the entire Quran in their heart — they know every letter, every rule, every nuance of the text intimately. An Alim/Alima has studied the Quran alongside Hadith, Fiqh, Arabic grammar, and the sciences of Tafsir. These are the people who should be teaching your child the Quran.

At Ayat Bridge: Every teacher is Hafiz ul Quran. Every teacher is Ijazah certified. The Ijazah is a formal certificate linking their chain of Quran recitation back through generations to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is the highest available credential in Quran teaching.

Check 3 — Is a Completely Free Trial Offered?

A quality online Quran academy has nothing to hide. They are confident in their teachers, their curriculum, and their format — and they show that confidence by offering a completely free trial class before any payment is requested.

The free trial serves you in two critical ways: first, it lets you meet the teacher and assess whether they are the right fit for your child before committing any money. Second, it lets your child experience the format — so they are comfortable before the paid classes begin.

If an academy does not offer a free trial — or offers a 'discounted first class' rather than a truly free one — ask why. Confidence in your product means you are willing to show it before being paid for it.

At Ayat Bridge: The first class is completely free. No payment details required to book. You experience the quality, meet the teacher, and decide with full information.

Check 4 — Is There a Structured, Progressive Curriculum?

'We teach Quran' is not a curriculum. A serious online Quran academy has a clear, documented progression path for every level — and they can tell you exactly what your child will be learning in month 1, month 3, and month 6.

For children, this means: Noorani Qaida stages clearly defined, transition to Quran reading at specific completion criteria, Tajweed introduced progressively, progress tracked and reported to parents.

For adults, this means: placement assessment in the first class, a personalised learning path based on current level, measurable milestones, and regular teacher feedback.

At Ayat Bridge: Every student follows a structured curriculum tailored to their starting level. Homework is set after every session. Progress is tracked. Parents receive updates.

Check 5 — Are Safeguarding Standards Met for Children?

This is perhaps the most important check of all when it comes to children.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks are the UK's standard safeguarding process for anyone working with children. Any reputable online Quran academy that provides services to UK children should require all their teachers to be DBS checked.

If an academy cannot confirm that its teachers are DBS checked — or if they seem unclear on what this means — that is a serious concern. Your child is in a private, one-to-one video call with an adult. You need to know that adult has been vetted.

At Ayat Bridge: DBS checks are mandatory for all Ayat Bridge teachers working with UK children. This is non-negotiable.

Check 6 — Are Female Teachers Available for Sisters and Daughters?

For many Muslim families, particularly for sisters and daughters, the availability of a qualified female teacher is not a preference — it is a requirement. An online Quran academy that cannot offer this is limiting access to a significant portion of the Muslim community.

The question to ask is not just 'do you have female teachers?' — it is: 'Are your female teachers qualified to the same standard as your male teachers? Do they hold Ijazah certification? How many are available and at what times?'

At Ayat Bridge: A dedicated team of fully certified female Ustadhat — Hafizah ul Quran, Ijazah certified, experienced teachers — are available for sisters and daughters across all session times and all courses.

Check 7 — What Happens When the Teacher Is Unavailable?

Life happens. Teachers get unwell. They travel. They have emergencies. An academy that has no contingency plan for teacher unavailability means your child's class simply does not happen — and if this occurs repeatedly, momentum is lost.

Ask specifically: 'If my child's teacher is unavailable for a session, what happens?' A quality academy has a clear answer: a substitute teacher of equal or higher qualification covers the session at the same time. No disruption to the child's learning schedule.

At Ayat Bridge: If your regular teacher is unavailable, a certified substitute is provided at the same scheduled time. Your child's Quran learning continues without interruption.

7-Point Checklist — Before Enrolling in Any Online Quran Academy

•      Check 2: Is the teacher Hafiz ul Quran or Alim/Alima with Ijazah certification?

•      Check 3: Is a completely free trial offered — no payment details required?

•      Check 4: Is there a structured, documented curriculum with clear milestones?

•      Check 5: Are all teachers DBS checked for work with UK children?

•      Check 6: Are qualified female teachers available for sisters and daughters?

•      Check 7: Is there a clear substitute teacher policy when the regular teacher is unavailable?
